I feel like a genius
well...almost. i fixed my printer. turns out it doesn't like the prophoto RGB profile from lightroom, so i had to convert my photos to adobe rgb. no big whoop.

also dont mess with profile stuff,
just set photoshop to adobe rgb 1998
and check color sync in the print driver
i disagree with you on lightroom. the new version isn't beta, and is a million times faster. even if you don't like lightroom, at least it isn't aperture. that sucks-and this is coming from a applephile. download their 30 day trial and try not to laugh. it is incredibly slow, and has almost no adjustments.
lightroom automatically uses the prophoto profile. i just have to remember to convert it to adobe rgb.
every time i use colorsync in the print driver i get bad results. it isn't WYSIWYG, so i just select color controls and leave it alone.
